If you are not happy with your smile and find that you often keep your mouth closed during pictures, you are a great candidate for a smile makeover. This includes a variety of different procedures and treatments that improve your smile, from covering imperfections, to fixing cracked teeth and straightening your teeth. Here are some things to consider for your smile makeover.

Teeth Whitening

One of the top treatments to get during a smile makeover is teeth whitening. This will allow you to cover staining and discolouration caused by what you eat and drink, the aging process, smoking cigarettes, and other sources of discolouration. Your dentist can either make custom trays to be used at home at your leisure, or you can have the whitening done the same day by choosing laser teeth whitening. Laser teeth whitening does give you immediate results, but it cost a little more than tray whitening. With tray whitening from your dentist, you have to wait a little bit for the trays to be made, but they can be used over and over again.

Contouring and Bonding

Another treatment you might want to get to improve the appearance of your teeth is a combination of contouring and bonding. Contouring is done to change the overall shape and size of your teeth. If you have incisors that come down to a point, you can have them filed down so they match the rest of your teeth. You might have some teeth that are larger than others, such as "buck teeth" which can also be filed down and re-shaped. Bonding is done when you want to fill in small gaps between your teeth, fill in a chipped tooth, or create a larger tooth if some of your teeth are unusually small.

Dental Veneers

There are some imperfections that can't be corrected with whitening or other treatments, which is when dental veneers benefit you. Veneers are made from pieces of porcelain that are cut to size after taking impressions of your teeth. Your dentist will file down your teeth slightly to make room for the veneers so it isn't obvious you have them. The veneers can cover teeth that are an odd size or shape, staining that whitening can't help cover, and even some tooth alignment issues.

Orthodontic Treatment

You might also want to fix more serious tooth alignment issues. You can either get traditional braces or get orthodontic treatment that speeds up the process. Invisible braces come in different forms, such as Invisalign, which include soft aligners that are removable. You wear them at all times to encourage tooth movement, but can be removed while eating or brushing your teeth. There are also other orthodontic treatments that speed up the straightening process; ask your dentist what they can provide.
